Read voicemail as text
- Audience: End users
Last updated
Voicemail transcription turns each new message into text, so you can read what a caller said before you decide to listen. It's built in on every plan at no cost.
Where to read a transcript
- In your voicemail email. If you get voicemail by email, the text of the message is part of the email.
- In your user portal. Open Other and then Voicemail. You may see a speech bubble next to the message number. That's where the transcript is. Listen to, move, forward and delete voicemail online covers the rest of that page.
You can still play every message by phone, as check voicemail from your desk phone explains.
Don't rely on the text alone
Transcripts come from AI, and they can contain mistakes. A word, a name or a digit in a phone number may come out wrong. Before you call someone back or act on a detail that matters, play the recording.
No transcripts?
Your admin turns transcription on for each mailbox. If your messages arrive without text, ask your admin to switch it on for you.
For admins: turn on transcription
Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.
- Step 1:Turn it on for your account
In the admin portal, open the AI settings and select Voicemail Transcription. CallSprout sets up the AI service for your account. If the page says no service is set up, contact CallSprout support. Otherwise, set Enable Service to Yes, pick the language, then save.
- Step 2:Turn it on for a user
Go to Extensions and edit the user. Select Show advanced options, find the Voicemail section and set Transcribe Content to Yes.
- Step 3:Check the email setting
Look at Delete After E-mailing for that user. It may need to be off for transcription to work.
- Step 4:Save
Save the user, then leave yourself a test message to check that text appears.
The account page also has a Transcribe by Default option. If you're not sure how to set it, ask CallSprout support.
Don't see this option? Contact support and we'll set it up for you.
