Pick which number you call from

  • Audience: App users
  • Add-on: Communicator apps

Last updated

The number people see when you call is your caller ID. If your admin has set up more than one number for you, you can choose which one to show on each call from the dialpad.

This feature needs the Communicator apps add-on on your account. See plans and pricing

Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.

Choose a number before you call

  1. Step 1:
    Open the dialpad
Use the dialpad on the Voice tab, or the Quick Call popup.
  2. Step 2:
    Open the caller ID list
Select the Caller ID dropdown above the number field.
  3. Step 3:
    Pick an option
Choose one of the numbers set up for you, or choose to hide your caller ID.
  4. Step 4:
    Place your call
Enter the number and call as usual.

Decide whether Communicator remembers your pick

You can set how long a choice lasts. Open Settings and look for the caller ID switching preference, or select Options in the Caller ID popup. You can choose one of three ways:

  • Ask every time.
  • Use the number for one call only.
  • Remember the number until you change it.

Hide your number

Some versions of Communicator also have a control that hides your caller ID for the next call only, or for all calls. In Communicator for the web, it sits in the bar at the bottom of the window. Your admin may need to turn it on first.

If the dropdown is grayed out

Your admin needs to enable caller ID switching for your extension. Ask them, or contact support. The numbers in the list are the ones set up for you. If one is missing, ask your admin.

For star codes that hide or change your number from a desk phone, see Hide or change the number you call from.
