Allow camera, mic and screen sharing

  • Audience: End users
  • Audience: App users

Last updated

A video meeting needs your permission to use your camera and microphone. Sharing your screen needs permission too. If nobody can see or hear you, a permission is probably blocked. You can allow it again in your browser's settings.

What each permission does

  • Camera. Shows your video.
  • Microphone. Lets others hear you.
  • Screen recording. Lets you share your screen.

When a permission is missing, the meeting page shows a prompt asking for it. Select allow, and you're set. If you blocked it earlier, use the steps below.

Allow the meeting site in your browser

The menu names can differ a little between browser versions. In each case, open the setting for Camera or Microphone and set the meeting site, proxy.callsprout.com, to allowed. On Contact Center Pro, the meeting site is your company's own callsprout.com address.

Where to find camera and microphone permissions
BrowserWhere to go
ChromeSettings, then Privacy and Security, then Site settings, then Permissions, then Camera or Microphone.
SafariPreferences, then Websites, then Camera or Microphone.
FirefoxPreferences, then Privacy and Security, then Permissions, then Camera or Microphone.
EdgeSettings, then Cookies and Site Permissions, then Camera or Microphone.

After you change a setting, reload the meeting page and join again if the browser asks.

Allow screen sharing on a Mac

Your Mac controls which apps can record your screen. If screen sharing is blocked, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, and check the Screen Recording list. Your browser or Communicator may need to be on that list. The same page has Camera and Microphone lists too. Letting someone control your computer during a share may also need Accessibility.

In some versions of Communicator on a Mac, a red exclamation mark on a toolbar icon means a permission is missing.

What to expect

If you share a single tab, a banner on it takes you back to the meeting.

Troubleshooting

  • The prompt never appears. You may have blocked the site before. Use the table above to set it back to allowed.
  • Your camera works in other apps but not here. Check the camera drop-down on the meeting's setup panel and pick the right device.
