A temporary greeting is your out of office message for voicemail. It replaces both your regular greetings until you remove it.
Set a temporary greeting
- Step 1:Open your mailbox
Dial *123 from your desk phone and enter your PIN.
- Step 2:Press 0 for mailbox options
- Step 3:Press 4 for the temporary greeting
- Step 4:Record your message
Follow the spoken prompts. Say that you're away, when you'll be back and who callers can reach instead.
Remove it when you're back
- Step 1:Open your mailbox
Dial *123 and enter your PIN.
- Step 2:Press 0 for mailbox options
The system tells you a temporary greeting is active.
- Step 3:Press 4
This opens the temporary greeting.
- Step 4:Press 2 to erase it
Your regular greeting plays again.
What to expect
The temporary greeting stays active until you erase it. It doesn't switch off on its own, so put a reminder on your calendar for your first day back.
It covers both your unavailable and busy greetings. Callers hear the same message whether you're on a call or away.
Check that it works
Call your own number from another phone and let it go to voicemail. If you hear your out of office message, it's active. Hang up before the tone, or leave a short test message and delete it later.
A good out of office message is short. Give the dates you're away, then one other way to reach someone, like a coworker's extension.
