Snow day, early close or a team meeting that runs late? You can flip your phone lines to closed or open from a desk phone without touching the schedule in the admin portal. Calls then follow your after hours or open hours routing until you switch back.
Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.
Override your hours from a desk phone
| Dial | To |
|---|---|
| *402 | Close now. Calls go to your after hours destination. |
| *401 | Open now. Calls follow the normal open hours path. |
| *403 | Go back to your regular schedule. |
Dialed alone, a code changes your account's schedule. To change only one phone number, dial the code and then that phone number right after it.
How long an override lasts
An override ignores the day's schedule until midnight, then your regular hours take over again. If you reopen the same day, dial the reset code rather than waiting.
If you'd like overrides to stay in place past that point until someone resets them, contact support.
Add an open and closed button to a desk phone
Some desk phones can carry a key programmed with *404. Press it to switch between open and closed. On phones that support it, the key's light shows which state you're in, so the front desk can see at a glance. The key doesn't reset to the schedule. For that, dial the reset code above.
Ask your admin or CallSprout support to set up the key. Whether the light works depends on the phone model.
Who can use these codes
Anyone on your account can dial these codes. They change how your lines answer for every caller, so share them only with the people who look after your hours.
Things to know
- Overrides don't edit your saved schedule. Once an override ends, your usual hours apply again.
- The full list of codes is in the star code cheat sheet.
