Don't miss calls when the app is in the background

Phones save battery by limiting apps that aren't on screen. When that happens to Communicator GO, the app may not be connected, and a call can come in without reaching your phone.

Why it happens

How much your phone limits an app depends on the phone, so treat these times as rough guides.

• Android. After a stretch of inactivity, the phone can enter Doze mode.
• iPhone. An app in the background can be suspended after a short while.

While the app is limited this way, a push notification from your phone system is what wakes it for an incoming call. If that notification doesn't get through, you can miss the call.

What to check

   Step 1:

   Leave the app running

   Don't quit the app. Quitting stops push notifications until you open it again. See Sign out or quit.

   Allow notifications

   On Android 13 and later, the app asks for permission to send notifications. If you said no, a yellow banner reminds you. On iPhone, open the app's settings and check Notifications for missed calls, new voicemail and server notices.

   Check your phone's battery settings

   Battery saver modes can limit background apps too. Where those settings are depends on your phone.

If you still miss a call

• Look at your recent calls in the app. Your call history syncs across your devices.
• Check your voicemail. You get a push notification for a new message.
• If a missed call would cost you business, set up your calls to ring your desk phone and cell phone together. See Ring your desk and cell phone together or in order.
