You can check what a phone would send with a 911 call without calling 911. CallSprout support looks up the emergency address on file for the phone or number and runs any test that's needed.
Never dial 911 to test a phone or app. 911 is for real emergencies only.
Before you start
- If you aren't your company's phone system admin, ask your admin to request the check for you.
- Each phone number has its own registered address, so list every one you want checked.
Ask support to check an address
- Step 1:List the phones or numbersFor each one, note the extension or phone number and the person who uses it.
- Step 2:Note where each phone is nowWrite down the full address, plus the floor, suite or room.
- Step 3:Contact supportContact CallSprout support and ask them to confirm the emergency address on file for each phone or number on your list.
- Step 4:Compare the answerCheck that the address support reads back matches where each phone actually sits.
- Step 5:Ask for a test if you need oneIf you want a phone tested, ask support. They run the test, so you never have to dial anything yourself.
If something's wrong
If an address is wrong or missing, tell support in the same request and give the right one. If a phone moves or someone starts working from a new place, tell your admin. Your admin asks CallSprout support to update the emergency address. How emergency addresses work, and how to change one has the details.
The apps
CallSprout Communicator NEXT and Communicator for the web send the same registered address as the desk phone, so one check covers the number in every app. Communicator GO hands 911 calls to the cell phone's own dialer. How 911 finds you when you call from the apps explains more.
When to check
Ask for a check after a phone is set up or moved, after an office move, and after an emergency address changes.
