Block a caller or anonymous calls
- Audience: End users
Last updated
You can set rules for calls from one particular number, or from anyone who hides their caller ID. Each rule decides what happens to those calls instead of ringing your phone.
Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.
Add a blocking rule
- Step 1:Open your blocking settingsSign in to your user portal, select Other, then Services, and select Edit next to Call Filters & Blocking.
- Step 2:Choose who the rule is forPick anonymous callers, or enter the phone number you want to block. You can start an outside number with a plus sign.
- Step 3:Choose what happens to the callPick one of the options in the table below.
- Step 4:Save the rule
| Option | What the caller gets |
|---|---|
| Busy | A busy signal. For anonymous callers this option is called always busy. |
| Not in service | A message that the number isn't in service. |
| Voicemail | Your voicemail, so you can decide later whether to call back. |
| Forward | The call goes to another number you choose. |
| No answer | For a specific number only: the call goes unanswered. |
| Privacy manager | For anonymous callers only: the caller is asked to show their number before the call goes through. |
| Ringtone | The call still rings, but with a distinct ring so you can tell who's calling. Whether this works depends on your desk phone, and many models can only use the rings already on them. |
What to expect
- Rules only apply to calls coming in to you. To stop your company's phones from dialing certain numbers, contact support.
- Blocking is set per person. If several people need the same number blocked, each of them needs the rule, or your admin can help.
Troubleshooting
- You don't see blocking in your user portal. Blocking may not be turned on for you. Ask your admin, who can ask CallSprout support to turn it on.
