Control which apps and app features each user gets
- Audience: Admins
- Add-on: Communicator apps
Last updated
You decide which Communicator apps each person uses and which features they see inside them. CallSprout support makes the change for you, one user at a time or for a whole department. This page explains the choices and what to send support.
This feature needs the Communicator apps add-on on your account. See plans and pricing
The app editions
Each kind of app access is called an edition.
| Edition | What the user gets |
|---|---|
| Desk phone companion | Communicator on a computer that controls their desk phone, without calling from the computer itself. Available on request. |
| Standard Communicator | Everything in the desk phone companion, plus calls from the computer itself. |
| Communicator GO | The mobile app on iPhone and Android. |
| Agent desktop and supervisor desktop | Contact center tools for Contact Center Pro agents and supervisors. For now, these run in the older Communicator desktop app, and CallSprout support sets it up. They're moving to Communicator NEXT soon. See what Contact Center Pro adds. |
Adding app users can change your bill. Check with CallSprout if you're unsure.
App features support can turn on or off
Support can change these for everyone on one edition, or for one person:
- Chat, voicemail, the company directory, star codes, Do Not Disturb, call quality details and a link to the user portal.
- Fax in CallSprout Communicator NEXT, if your account has fax.
- The meetings button in Communicator NEXT.
- Picture messages.
- A cap on how many apps a person can be signed in to at the same time. There's no cap unless you ask for one.
- Whether Communicator NEXT starts in softphone mode or desk phone mode. Depending on the app version, the person may be able to switch afterward.
- Individual chat features, such as creating groups, deleting messages, or sending voice and file messages.
- WebRTC, which calls from Communicator for the web and Communicator in Teams need.
- Teams status sync, where your account has it.
- On Contact Center Lite, enhanced ring group dashboards in Communicator. See watch your groups with the ring group dashboard.
The Microsoft Teams integration features described on this page require an active, permitted connection to Microsoft Teams. Availability depends on that system's supported APIs and permissions.
Ask support to make a change
- Step 1:Name the peopleList each user and extension the change is for, or the department.
- Step 2:Say which apps and featuresGive the editions they should have, for example standard Communicator and Communicator GO, and any features to turn on or off.
- Step 3:Send it to supportContact CallSprout support with your list. For a department, say whether people who join it later should get the same setup.
- Step 4:Check with the userWhen support confirms, ask the person to open the app. They may need to sign in again before the change shows.
Departments make this quicker, because support can set app access once for a whole team. See organize your directory by department.
See who is signed in to the apps
The monitor in the admin portal lists everyone signed in to an app right now, with the app and its version. See see who is on a call right now.
