Make a call from a PIN protected shared phone
- Audience: End users
Last updated
Some shared phones, like the ones in a lobby, break room or warehouse, ask for a personal PIN before an outside call goes through. Your PIN tells the phone system who's calling, so the call shows up in your own call history instead of the shared phone's.
Before you start
Your admin gives you a personal PIN for shared phones. If you don't have one, ask them.
Make an outside call
- Step 1:Dial the numberOn the shared phone, dial the outside number the way you normally would.
- Step 2:Enter your PINWhen the phone asks, enter your personal PIN.
- Step 3:Wait for the call to connectThe call goes out as if you made it from your own extension.
What to expect
- Calls to coworkers' extensions don't ask for a PIN.
- Some star codes ask for your PIN too, so the system knows whose settings to use. These include checking voicemail with *124, speed dial with *130, call pickup with *8 and parking with #700.
- Your company may have company speed dials skip the PIN on a shared phone. Those calls then count as the shared phone's, not yours.
Troubleshooting
- The phone doesn't accept your PIN. Check the PIN with your admin.
- A star code doesn't work after you enter your PIN. That feature may need to be turned on for your own extension. Ask your admin.
