Get alerted when someone dials 911

Last updated
A 911 alert tells people in your building that a coworker has called 911, so someone can meet responders at the door or go help. The alert is an extra call to your own people. It doesn't replace the 911 call.
How 911 alerts work
When someone on your account dials 911, the system can phone the people you chose and play a recorded message that names the extension the 911 call came from. Alerts can go to:
- an outside phone number, such as a guard desk or a manager's cell
- an extension
- a ring group
You also choose:
- Who hears it. The alert can go to every destination you list, or stop at the first one.
- The caller ID on the alert call, so people can tell it's a 911 alert.
- An email address, if you also want an alert by email. Leave it out and no email goes. The email may include details such as who placed the call and the address on file.
Ask for 911 alerts
CallSprout support sets up 911 alerts. Make these choices, then send them to support.
- Step 1:Decide who should be alertedPick the people or teams who would act first, such as reception, security or an office manager. A ring group works well when several people share the job.
- Step 2:Choose every destination or the first oneDecide whether everyone on your list should hear the alert or only the first destination.
- Step 3:Pick an email addressIf you want an email too, choose a shared mailbox someone watches, such as security@example.com.
- Step 4:Contact supportSend those choices to CallSprout support and ask for 911 alerts on your account.
- Step 5:Check itAfter setup, ask support to confirm the alert works. Support runs any test, so never dial 911 to try it. Check your 911 setup without dialing 911 covers the address check.
Good to know
- The recorded message names the extension that dialed. Keep your emergency addresses current, through CallSprout support, so responders get the right location.
- When the people on your alert list change, ask support to update the list.
- If a phone moves or someone starts working from a new place, tell your admin. Your admin asks CallSprout support to update the emergency address.
