Deploy Communicator to many Windows PCs

  • Audience: Admins
  • Add-on: Communicator apps

Last updated

This page is for the IT team rolling out CallSprout Communicator NEXT to many Windows computers. On Windows, Communicator NEXT comes as an MSIX package, a modern Windows package that installs and removes cleanly and updates itself. For a single computer, see install Communicator on Windows or Mac.

This feature needs the Communicator apps add-on on your account. See plans and pricing

Before you start

  • Ask CallSprout support for the MSIX package. The downloads page, downloads.callsprout.com/communicator/Latest/, has the standard Windows installer in its Next-PC folder, not the MSIX package.
  • Check the system requirements.
  • Note the host people enter at sign in: proxy.callsprout.com. Contact Center Pro systems use your company's own callsprout.com address instead, which CallSprout gives you.
  • Check whether single sign-on is turned on for your company. It's available on request from CallSprout support.
  • Plan for individual computers. Communicator NEXT isn't supported on terminal servers or other shared remote desktop servers.

Roll out the package

  1. Step 1:
    Test on one computer
Open the package on a test computer, let it install, then sign in and place a test call.
  2. Step 2:
Push it with your usual tool
Deploy the package with the tool you already use for Windows apps, as long as it supports MSIX packages. Check Microsoft's documentation, or your tool's, for the exact steps.
  3. Step 3:
Tell people how to sign in
Send your team sign in to Communicator. They enter the host, their work email and their password, or use single sign-on if your company has it.

What to expect

  • The app runs in its own container on each computer, and it shows in the Windows list of apps like any other app.
  • It updates itself, so you don't need to push each new version.
  • To remove it, uninstall it like any other Windows app, from Windows settings or with your management tool.
  • We don't have steps for pre-filling the host or sign in details in the MSIX package. If you need that, ask CallSprout support.

Editions

CallSprout sets the edition each person gets, so there's nothing to choose in the package. The desk phone companion edition, where Communicator controls a desk phone but doesn't place calls itself, is available on request from CallSprout support.

Contact Center Pro agents and supervisors use the older Communicator desktop app for now. Ask CallSprout support how to roll that one out.
