Click to dial from web pages

  • Audience: App users
  • Add-on: Communicator apps

Last updated

With click to dial, you select a phone number on a web page and Communicator calls it. You don't have to copy and paste the number. Click to Dial works with CallSprout Communicator NEXT and with Communicator for the web.

This feature needs the Communicator apps add-on on your account. See plans and pricing

Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.

Before you start

You need the Click to Dial browser extension. It's listed for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Ask support before you try another browser.

You don't search an extension store for it. You add it from inside Communicator after you sign in. The extension's store listing shows our platform partner's name. That's expected.

Set it up

  1. Step 1:
    Add the extension
In Communicator NEXT, select Tools in the toolbar, then Web Browser Add-ons, and follow the prompts for your browser. Communicator for the web offers the add-on too, from its own menu.
  2. Step 2:
    Turn it on in Communicator
Open the app's settings, go to Phone, and turn on Click to Dial. In some versions this is under Modules instead.
  3. Step 3:
    Allow the link
When the web app asks if it can handle these links, choose to allow it.

Call a number on a web page

Select the number on the page and use the extension to dial it. Communicator then dials the number you selected.

If you see a blank page after you click

A blank page that shows a long web address starting with web+ means your browser blocked Communicator from handling the link. In Chrome, fix it like this.

  1. Step 1:
    Open site settings
Go to Chrome settings, then Privacy and security, then Site settings, then Additional permissions.
  2. Step 2:
    Open protocol handlers
    Select Protocol handlers.
  3. Step 3:
    Remove the block
Remove the web app from the blocked list.
  4. Step 4:
    Clear the site data
Clear the site data for the web app, then refresh the page.
  5. Step 5:
    Allow it again
When your browser asks, choose to allow it.

What to expect

Click to dial depends on your browser allowing the link to open Communicator. If it still doesn't work, contact support.
