Create a greeting from text with an AI voice
- Audience: Admins
Last updated
Don't have a good voice for recording, or need a new message in a hurry? Type the words, choose an AI voice, and the admin portal makes the audio file for you. Text to speech is part of Sage, CallSprout's name for all of its AI voice features.
Sage is available on every plan. The first 30 seconds of each greeting you generate are included at no cost. After that, usage is billed at the Sage AI voice agent rate on plans and pricing.
Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.
Before you start
Text to speech has to be switched on for your account once:
- Step 1:Open the AI settings
In the admin portal, open the AI settings and select Text to speech.
- Step 2:Turn it on
CallSprout sets up the AI service for your account. If the page says no service is set up, contact CallSprout support. Otherwise, set Enable TTS to Yes.
- Step 3:Save
Save the page.
Don't see this option? Contact support and we'll set it up for you.
Then write your script. Read it out loud once to check it sounds natural. The text box takes up to a few thousand characters.
Generate the greeting
- Step 1:Open the sound files page
In the admin portal, open Sound Files under System.
- Step 2:Start a new file
Choose Generate sound file (AI) in the toolbar.
- Step 3:Pick a voice
Choose a Model and a Voice. Both are required. Select Play sample to hear a voice before you commit.
- Step 4:Say where it's going
In Use for, pick the job, such as a phone menu greeting, a phone number greeting, a ring group message or a voicemail group greeting. This adds the name prefix that makes the file show up in the right list.
- Step 5:Name it
Enter a Name using letters, numbers and hyphens. It has to be different from every other file. When you've set Use for, the prefix is added for you.
- Step 6:Enter your script
Paste or type it into Text.
- Step 7:Generate and listen
Select Generate, then Listen to play the result.
- Step 8:Save
Select Save. It only works after you generate. If you change the text or the voice, generate again before you save.
Put it to work
Your new file now appears wherever its prefix belongs. Pick it in the Greeting list when you build your main phone menu, or in the matching ring group setting. If it isn't offered, read why isn't my greeting in the list?
Check it before callers hear it
AI voices can get things wrong. The voice may say your company name, a street or a phone number differently than you expect. Play the whole file before you use it, and call in to hear it the way your callers will. If a word comes out wrong, try spelling it the way it sounds and generate again.
To use your own recording instead, upload a file or record a menu greeting from your phone.
