Answer a coworker's ringing phone
- Audience: End users
Last updated
When a coworker's phone is ringing and they're not around, you can answer the call from your own phone. There are two ways to do it.
Before you start
Your admin needs to turn on call pickup for your extension. To use group pickup, your admin also puts you and your coworkers in the same pickup group.
Answer a call ringing in your pickup group
- Step 1:Lift your handsetOr press the speaker key.
- Step 2:Dial the group pickup codeDial *8. You're connected to the ringing call.
The group code grabs whichever call it finds, so when several phones in your group ring at once, it might not be the one you meant. To answer a particular phone, use directed pickup below.
Answer a call ringing on one extension
- Step 1:Lift your handsetOr press the speaker key.
- Step 2:Dial the directed pickup code and the extensionDial *88, then the extension that's ringing. For example, to answer extension 1003, dial the code followed by 1003.
Directed pickup works even if that coworker isn't in your pickup group.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing happens when you dial the group code. You may not be in the same pickup group as the ringing phone. Try directed pickup, or ask your admin to check your groups.
- Neither code works. Call pickup may be off for your extension. Ask your admin, or contact support.
