How does 911 find you when you call from the apps?
- Audience: App users
Last updated
CallSprout Communicator NEXT and Communicator for the web send the address registered to the phone number on your extension, the same address your desk phone sends. CallSprout support sets it. The apps can't tell on their own where you're sitting, so keep that address current whenever you change where you work.
Before you start
- There's no emergency location to enter in the apps, and no list of addresses to pick from in the apps or in your user portal. Only CallSprout support changes the registered address.
- Emergency addresses work only on US accounts. If you work outside the US, contact support before you count on the apps for 911.
When you dial 911
Dial 911 directly, with nothing in front of it. Tell the dispatcher where you are, even if you think they already have it, and stay on the line until they say you can hang up.
- Communicator NEXT and Communicator for the web. The call carries the registered address for your number, wherever your computer is.
- Communicator GO. The app hands a 911 call to your phone's own dialer, and it goes out over your mobile network. Your mobile carrier handles it the way it handles any cell phone 911 call.
Keep your address current
If you start working from a new place, or a desk phone moves, tell your admin before you take calls there, not after. Your admin asks CallSprout support to update the address registered to your number.
Never dial 911 to test the app. To check an address, ask your admin, who can have CallSprout support confirm what's on file. How 911 works covers desk phones and what to do in an emergency.
