Set your status, custom message and Do Not Disturb

  • Audience: App users
  • Add-on: Communicator apps

Last updated

Your status tells coworkers if you're free. Phone DND is a separate switch that handles your calls. Here's how to use both.

This feature needs the Communicator apps add-on on your account. See plans and pricing

Some labels in your portal or apps may look slightly different from this guide.

Set your status

  1. Step 1:
    Open the status menu
Select the status indicator on your avatar.
  2. Step 2:
    Pick a status
Choose how you want to appear, such as Available, Busy, Do Not Disturb or Away.

Coworkers see small icons next to your name for states like Ringing, On a call, Busy, Do Not Disturb and Away. Your admin may add more statuses, such as Lunch Break. Ask them if you need one.

Add a custom message

If a custom status option is in the list, you can pair a base status with your own message.

  1. Step 1:
    Choose Custom status
Open the status menu and select Custom status.
  2. Step 2:
    Pick a base status
Choose the status you want to show.
  3. Step 3:
    Write your message
Type what you want coworkers to read.
  4. Step 4:
    Choose when it ends
Pick how long it lasts. The choices can include a few hours, the rest of the day, a few days, or until you change it. When it ends, your status goes back to Available.

Turn Phone DND on or off

  1. Step 1:
    Open your profile menu
Select your profile picture in the top bar.
  2. Step 2:
    Switch Phone DND on
Select Phone DND. A banner appears in the top bar.
  3. Step 3:
    Switch it off
Select Switch to available in the banner, or use Phone DND again.

Phone DND controls Do Not Disturb for your calls. Where your calls go while it's on is set in your user portal. See Use Do Not Disturb. In Communicator for the web, the Do Not Disturb switch may also sit in the bar at the bottom of the window, and it may be turned off until your admin enables it.

What to expect

  • Setting your status to Do Not Disturb and switching on Phone DND are two separate controls. Use Phone DND when you want calls handled.
  • When your status is Do Not Disturb, some versions also silence chat, conference and coworker online alerts.

Troubleshooting

  • Phone DND is missing or won't switch on. Ask your admin whether it's enabled for your extension, or contact support.
