CallSprout + OpenAI

OpenAI's speech and voice models are one of the engines behind CallSprout's AI features, from voice agent conversations to turning recorded calls and voicemail into text. Available for OpenAI.

Overview

How CallSprout works with OpenAI.

CallSprout's AI features run on models from a small set of AI providers, and OpenAI is one of them. You do not need to know which model is doing what to use the features. This page is for teams that want to know where the work happens, or that want a feature to run on their own OpenAI account.

OpenAI models can handle several jobs on CallSprout: holding a spoken conversation as an AI voice agent, writing out recorded calls as text, transcribing recorded calls in extensions, ring groups and queues while they are still in progress, reading voicemail into text, and turning typed text into a spoken greeting or prompt. Which provider runs each feature is set for each account, and we confirm the choice with you.

Some setups use your own OpenAI account and API key. When that is the case, OpenAI's terms and usage charges apply to that account, and the features you connect depend on what your OpenAI account allows. We set up the connection with you either way.

What you get

CallSprout and OpenAI, working together.

What Sage does once your call data flows into the tools you already use.

Voice agent conversations

OpenAI's realtime voice models are one option for running an AI voice agent on CallSprout, listening and answering in the same conversation.

Text from recorded calls

Recorded calls can be written out as text with OpenAI's speech-to-text models, so your team can read a call instead of replaying it.

Voicemail you can read

Voicemail transcription can run on OpenAI, so messages arrive as text you can skim before you call back.

Greetings from typed text

Type a greeting or menu prompt and OpenAI's text to speech turns it into audio for your call flows, so nobody has to record it by hand.

Where OpenAI fits in CallSprout

OpenAI works underneath CallSprout's own features. The features you use, such as AI call transcription for recorded calls, live transcription for recorded calls in extensions, ring groups and queues, voicemail to text and text to speech, are CallSprout features. OpenAI is one of the providers that can do the speech and language work inside them.

When OpenAI is the provider for a feature, the audio or text that feature needs is sent to OpenAI for processing. For transcription, that is the audio of the recorded call or voicemail. For text to speech, it is the words you typed. We go through what is sent where during setup so there are no surprises.

Using your own OpenAI account

Some teams want AI features to run under an OpenAI account they already manage, for billing or policy reasons. That can be set up. You provide the account details, and the features connected to it run under OpenAI's terms and your account's limits and charges.

If you do not have an OpenAI account, or would rather not manage one, talk to us about how the features you want are provided. Either way, you keep the same CallSprout features and settings.

Questions

OpenAI, answered.

Does CallSprout use OpenAI?
Yes. OpenAI is one of the AI providers that can run CallSprout's AI features, including voice agent conversations, text from recorded calls, live transcription of recorded calls in extensions, ring groups and queues, voicemail to text, and text to speech.
Do I need my own OpenAI account?
Not necessarily. Some setups use your own OpenAI account and API key, and then OpenAI's terms and usage charges apply to that account. We go through the options with you during setup.
Does OpenAI receive my call audio?
Only for features where OpenAI is the provider. For transcription, the audio of recorded calls or voicemail is sent to OpenAI for processing. We confirm which features use which provider during setup.
Can I choose a different provider for some features?
Yes. The provider is set for each feature on your account, so one feature can use OpenAI while another uses a different provider such as Deepgram or Google.
