CallSprout + Retell

Keep the voice agent you built on Retell and run it on CallSprout's phone system, with calls that hand off to a person on your team whenever one is needed. Available for Retell.

The Retell integration features described on this page require an active, permitted connection to Retell. Availability depends on that system's supported APIs and permissions.

Overview

How CallSprout works with Retell.

Plenty of teams build their first voice agent on Retell. They write the prompt, tune the voice, wire up the tools, and get an agent that handles a real conversation. Then they hit the phone side: numbers, extensions, ring groups, after-hours routing, and the moment a caller needs a person. That part is a phone system's job.

CallSprout connects your Retell agent to your CallSprout phone system over SIP. Inbound calls on the numbers you choose go to the agent, and the agent can place outbound calls through CallSprout too. Retell handles the conversation. CallSprout stays the phone system underneath, so your numbers, routing and the people who pick up when the agent hands off all live in one place.

Bring-your-own-agent connections are in early access, and we set each one up with you. If you would rather not run an agent of your own, Sage, CallSprout's AI voice agent, is built into the platform. The connect your tools page covers both options side by side.

What you get

CallSprout and Retell, working together.

What Sage does once your call data flows into the tools you already use.

Your Retell agent on your business line

Point any CallSprout number at your Retell agent. Callers reach the agent you built, with your prompt, your voice and your tools, on the number they already know.

Inbound and outbound over SIP

The agent answers inbound calls routed to it and places outbound calls through CallSprout, so both directions run on the same phone system and the same numbers.

Hand-offs to people on CallSprout phones

When a caller needs a person, the agent transfers the call to an extension, a ring group or a queue on CallSprout, and your team picks up on the desk phones and apps they already use.

Numbers and routing stay with CallSprout

Your numbers, business hours, ring groups and call flows are managed in CallSprout. You can change which calls reach the agent without touching the agent itself.

Retell runs the conversation, CallSprout runs the phones

The split is simple. Everything about how your agent talks, what it knows and which tools it can call stays in your Retell account. Everything about where calls come from and where they go stays in CallSprout. That keeps each system doing the job it is built for.

Your Retell agent can use its own tools to look up an account or create a ticket in your help desk while the caller is on the line, the same way it does today. CallSprout does not change those tools. It carries the call to the agent and carries it back to your team when the agent is done.

Because routing lives in CallSprout, you decide which calls the agent sees. Some teams send only after-hours calls to the agent. Others send the main line to the agent first and let it pass sales or support calls to the right group. You can change that in CallSprout's call flows at any time.

What early access means

Bring-your-own-agent connections are new, so we set them up one at a time with each customer. On a short call we look at your Retell agent, the numbers you want it on, and where hand-offs should land. Then we configure the SIP connection on both sides and test inbound calls, outbound calls and transfers before anything goes live.

You keep your Retell account and its billing. CallSprout provides the phone system, the numbers and the people side of the call. If something changes on the Retell side, such as a new agent or a new number, we update the connection with you.

Common scenarios

What this looks like day to day.

After-hours coverage with your own agent

Your Retell agent takes calls on the main line after the office closes. When a caller has an urgent problem, the agent transfers the call to the on-call ring group on CallSprout, and someone on the team picks up on their mobile app.

Outbound reminder calls

Your agent places outbound calls through CallSprout from your business number. When a customer asks to speak with someone, the agent hands the call to a person on your team instead of ending it.

A front door that knows when to step aside

The agent answers the main number, handles routine questions, and passes billing or sales calls to the matching CallSprout queue. Your team spends its time on the calls that need a person.

Questions

Retell, answered.

Does CallSprout work with Retell?
Yes. CallSprout connects to Retell over SIP, so a voice agent you built on Retell can answer inbound calls on your CallSprout numbers and place outbound calls through CallSprout. The connection is in early access, and we set it up with you.
Can the Retell agent transfer a caller to my team?
Yes. The agent can hand the call to an extension, ring group or queue on CallSprout, and the person picks up on their CallSprout phone or app. We test transfers with you during setup.
Do I need my own Retell account?
Yes. The agent, its prompt and its tools live in your Retell account, under Retell's own terms and billing. CallSprout provides the phone system the agent runs on.
Should I use Retell or Sage?
If you already have an agent on Retell that works, keep it and connect it. If you do not have an agent yet, Sage is built into CallSprout and needs no separate platform. Some teams use both on different numbers.
What does early access mean for my setup?
It means we configure each connection by hand with you rather than through a self-serve screen. We confirm which numbers route to the agent and how transfers should work, then test before going live.
