CallSprout + Neon CRM

Keep your constituent database current and your team focused on relationships, not data entry. Sage answers every call to your nonprofit and logs a detailed Activity note directly in Neon CRM after each conversation. Available for Neon CRM.

Overview

How CallSprout works with Neon CRM.

For a nonprofit development team, the phone is where relationships start and where donor records quietly go stale. A major donor calls to update a mailing address, a volunteer asks about the next event, a foundation program officer leaves a message about a letter of inquiry, and none of it makes it into Neon CRM because everyone on your staff is stretched across three priorities at once. By the time someone gets to updating the record, the details have blurred.

CallSprout closes that gap by putting Sage, our AI voice agent, on your nonprofit's main line. Sage answers the call, collects the caller's name, organization, and reason for reaching out, and writes a structured Activity note to the constituent record in Neon CRM. Your development team logs in the next morning and sees a clear, searchable interaction history for every call your organization received, with nothing lost to a sticky note or a forgotten voicemail.

It is the same pattern we build for every nonprofit and mission-driven organization: keep your donor data accurate as your constituent base grows, so your team can spend their time on the relationships that drive your mission rather than on re-keying what the phone already captured. Sage works alongside Neon CRM, not instead of it.

What you get

CallSprout and Neon CRM, working together.

What Sage does once your call data flows into the tools you already use.

Activity logged on every call

Sage writes a detailed Activity note to the constituent record in Neon CRM after each call, giving your development team a complete interaction history without any manual entry.

Caller details captured and ready

When Sage speaks with a new or returning constituent, it collects their name, organization, and the purpose of their call, so your team has a complete starting point for follow-up even before anyone reviews the transcript.

AI call transcription included

Every call Sage handles is transcribed and summarized automatically, giving your team a searchable record of what donors and volunteers actually said, not just what someone remembered to type afterward.

After-hours calls handled

Sage answers around the clock, so a major donor who calls on a Sunday evening still reaches someone, still has their call logged in Neon CRM, and still feels heard before your team arrives Monday morning.

How Sage logs calls as Activities in Neon CRM

Neon CRM exposes an Activity endpoint through its v2 API that links a note to a constituent record by client ID. When a call ends, Sage posts to that endpoint with a structured summary of the conversation including the subject, the full call note, and the system user the activity should be attributed to. The Activity lands in the constituent's timeline in Neon CRM exactly as if a staff member had logged it manually.

This means every inbound call your organization receives, whether from a first-time donor, a longtime volunteer, or a foundation contact, leaves a record in your CRM without anyone on your team doing the entry. Your development director can filter by Activity type, see which constituents called this week, and prioritize follow-up based on actual interaction history rather than guesswork.

If a caller is not yet in Neon CRM, Sage captures their name, organization, phone number, and reason for calling during the conversation. That information is available in the call summary and transcript so your team can create the constituent record from a complete starting point rather than a blank form. You can see how AI call transcription makes that process faster for every team using CallSprout.

Donor stewardship at the scale of your call volume

Nonprofit development teams know that donor stewardship is not just about the annual fund letter or the gala invite. It is about every touchpoint, including the calls where a donor wanted to update their address, a board member left a message before a meeting, or a lapsed donor called to ask a question and decided not to reactivate because nobody answered. Those calls are stewardship opportunities whether or not your team was available to take them.

Sage makes sure every one of those calls results in a logged interaction in Neon CRM, so your team has a complete picture of every constituent who reached out. Development officers can see at a glance which donors have called recently, what they asked about, and what follow-up they may be waiting for, without having to dig through voicemail boxes or check with colleagues who took the call.

The same call data that logs to Neon CRM also flows into CallSprout's reporting, so you can see which times of day your phones are busiest, which call types come up most often, and where your team's time is actually going. That is the kind of visibility that helps a small development team punch above its weight. Learn more about how CallSprout supports nonprofit organizations.

Always-on coverage for the calls that matter most

Major gifts rarely announce themselves in advance. A board member's connection might call on a Thursday afternoon just before your office closes. A foundation officer might follow up on a grant proposal the week your development director is traveling. An event sponsor might call with a question that, left unanswered for a day, becomes a reason to back out.

Sage answers every call regardless of when it comes in, collects the relevant details, and logs the interaction in Neon CRM. Your team returns to a complete record of what happened rather than a voicemail they have to transcribe and enter by hand. For organizations running lean on staff, that coverage is the difference between a relationship that advances and one that quietly goes cold.

Sage operates on CallSprout's reliable cloud phone platform, which means there is no on-premises hardware to maintain and no coverage gap when a team member is out sick. The phones keep working and the CRM keeps getting updated whether or not anyone is at their desk.

Fits the tools and workflows your nonprofit already uses

CallSprout runs on the devices your team already has. There is no new phone hardware to buy, no software to install on workstations, and no migration away from Neon CRM. Sage connects to your existing Neon CRM account through its API and starts logging calls to the constituent records you already maintain.

If your team also uses tools like Bloomerang or Little Green Light, you can browse the full integration catalog to see how Sage connects to other nonprofit software. And if you want to automate steps between Neon CRM and other tools in your stack, Zapier can bridge workflows that do not have a direct API connection.

Setup starts with a conversation about how your organization uses Neon CRM: which activity types your team tracks, how your constituent records are structured, and what call types your phones handle most. We configure Sage around your workflows so the data that lands in Neon CRM looks exactly like the data your team expects to find there.

Common scenarios

What this looks like day to day.

The board member who called during a retreat

Your development director is off-site for a two-day board retreat. A major donor calls the main line with a question about their pledge payment. Sage answers, collects the details, logs a clear Activity note in Neon CRM, and your director finds it waiting when they return, with everything needed to follow up personally.

After-hours event inquiries

Your organization is hosting a fundraising gala. In the week before the event, calls come in after hours from guests with dietary requests, parking questions, and registration questions. Sage handles every call, logs each interaction in Neon CRM against the constituent record, and your events coordinator reviews the full list the next morning.

Lapsed donor outreach periods

During your year-end appeal, call volume spikes. Some calls come from lapsed donors who received your letter and have questions before reactivating. Sage makes sure every caller is heard, every conversation is logged in Neon CRM, and every follow-up your team needs to make is visible in the constituent timeline.

Questions

Neon CRM, answered.

Does CallSprout integrate with Neon CRM?
Yes. Sage connects to Neon CRM through its v2 API and logs each call as an Activity on the matching constituent record. Setup includes a conversation about your Neon CRM account structure and which Activity types your team tracks, so the data that lands in your CRM matches what your development team expects to find.
Can Sage identify a caller by their phone number before the call?
Phone number is not a documented search field in the Neon CRM v2 account search API, so automatic caller lookup before the call is not available for this integration. Sage collects the caller's name, organization, and purpose during the conversation and uses that information when logging the Activity to the correct constituent record.
What does the Activity note in Neon CRM actually contain?
Sage posts an Activity with a subject line describing the call, a note containing a structured summary of the conversation, and attribution to the system user you designate during setup. Your team sees the same kind of interaction record they would create manually, without having to type it.
What happens when a caller is not yet in Neon CRM?
Sage captures the caller's name, organization, phone number, and reason for calling during the conversation. That information is available in the call summary and transcript so your team can create the constituent record from a complete starting point. Sage does not create new constituent records automatically; that step stays with your team.
Does Sage schedule donor appointments or send pledges to Neon CRM?
Neon CRM does not expose a public appointment or pledge-capture endpoint in its v2 API, so Sage does not write appointment or gift records back to Neon CRM directly. Sage captures gift discussions and appointment requests during the call and records them in the Activity note, so your team has the details and can enter them into Neon CRM using your normal process.
Does Sage record calls, and how does consent work?
Sage can record and transcribe calls, and it announces recording at the start of each conversation so you meet two-party consent requirements in the states that require them. Transcripts and summaries are stored on CallSprout's secure infrastructure and are available to your team alongside the Activity notes in Neon CRM.
Do we need to replace Neon CRM or buy new phone hardware?
No. Sage works alongside Neon CRM, not instead of it, and CallSprout is cloud based and runs on the devices your team already uses. There is no new phone hardware to buy and no migration away from your existing CRM.
